Background music
When this page comes up, you should hear Franz Schubert's String Quartet No. 14, Death and the Maiden, performed by the Musical Offering, October 2005, at the Weisman Art Museum. (If the music does not start automatically, click here.)

The Musical Offering began in 1971 as a quintet — for piano, violin, cello, flute, and oboe.

Basil Reeve, the Offering's veteran oboist and programmer, will be honored at the final concert of the 2008-2009 season.
Allison Reese
Allison Reese, our keyboardist, is another invaluable veteran of the group.

In the mid-1980s, the group added four instruments — viola, clarinet, bassoon, and bass — and now play everything from duets to nonets.

In four annual concerts, the Offering present an outstanding repertoire of chamber music — both rare and familiar pieces, from the 18th through the 21st century chamber music repertoire.

In 2008– 2009, our 38th season, the Offering's programs present, in order British composers, Haydn to Schoenberg, Piston's American nonet, an an homage to Basil Reeve, our oboist and programmer.

Please join us at the Sundin Music Hall, at Hamline University. In this intimate and acoustically equisite venue, you can get close to the players ... and see, and hear, everything. (They also are available for chats and snacks in the lobby after the program.)

As always, this exquisite music comes at a price you can easily afford.
